A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to tie for the second time at the Western Idaho Fly Fishing Expo. This expo is one of my favorites. On the first day of the expo I talked to the other tiers and explored the fishing and tying booths. Once again I had the opportunity to talk to the incredible fly tier Mark Borovatz. This year he taught me a bunch of fly fishing and tying techniques. I also got to meet the famous Al and Gretchen Beatty and they showed me their techniques for tying Parachute Adams and Humpy Dry Flies.
During the Expo I learned about an incredible new material called Atomic Glow created by Alan Wood. When the Atomic Glow material is exposed to ultraviolet light it will glow up to eight hours! This material is perfect for big streamers and I have been using the Atomic Glow for nymph patterns.
The second and last day of the Expo was the day I got to tie flies. This year I brought two dozen different fly patterns to tie. Seventy percent of the flies I brought were custom. I always enjoy attending these expos and I am already looking forward to the next one.
